hotel around TAKAYAMA
「飛騨の森でクマは踊る」（通称：ヒダクマ）のクリエイターとの“飛騨Camp”プロジェクトにおいて、
岐阜県高山市に新設される「hotel around TAKAYAMA」のアートワークを
TokyoDexディレクションで制作しました。
外部クリエイターの視点を取り入れ、地域資源の魅力を再定義・
再発見を促すことを目的としたプロジェクトで、
アーティストの柏原晋平、Mariya Suzuki、simoを含めるチームは、
作品制作の前にまず飛騨高山を巡り、地域とその周辺の森林環境に対して
取り組むべき課題を理解することから始め、
そうして地域の資源、文化、潜在的魅力を反映した、旅人×地域×環境にやさしい唯一の作品を制作しました。
simoは8階ラウンジ内２面の壁面と、客室１室のアートワークを担当。
広葉樹の端材を旋盤で切り出してもらい、
FabCafeのレーザーカッターも駆使して半立体作品を作り上げました。
‘環る’

切り出したアウトラインのゆるやかな形状や、僕が描いた抽象部分の大半は「水」のイメージです。
飛騨建築の軒に見られる’雲’と呼ばれる紋様に感銘を受け、
加えて「端材を活かす」というところから、「循環」をテーマに制作しました。
木や森を育てる水が雨→川→海→雲と常に循環し全ての場面で他を生かして無駄がないように、
人間の営みによって出てきた端材にも、同じく本来無駄な部分など無かったはずです。
説教臭く「もったいないから自然を大事にしろ！」と言いたいわけではなく、
「捨てられている部分もこんなに格好いいんだよ」という
新しい視点を持てるような作品になってくれたら幸いです。
Cycles
2021/ Acrylic paint on broadleaf tree scraps found in the Hidakuma warehouse
I began this project with just the simple intention to use scrap wood as the base material for my work,
but the cloudlike patterns within Hida’s architecture left a strong impression on me and led to an overall theme of “cycles.'' The other gentle shapes, outlines and most abstract parts of the work were inspired by water.
Just as the water that nurtures the forest is constantly cycling through clouds, rain,
rivers and oceans without wasting a single drop, we too should make an effort not to waste any of our resources.
I don’t mean to make a banal statement about taking care of the environment,
but instead offer a fresh perspective on how some things we think are waste materials
may actually be the beginnings of something new.
